set up a gallon batch of unhopped ale 2 or 3 days ago, using a thin layer of castor oil on top as an airlock. it's working great. the only danger is that I won't be able to get all the oil out of the final product, and/or that it will taint the flavor. castor oil is supposedly somewhat soluble in water, compared to other oils.
