This morning I figured out what I was doing wrong with tor. I thought the HiddenServicesPort number was automagically used by the onion network when you visited the ".onion" site, but nope. You have to append a colon and the port number, just like with any other website that listens on a nonstandard port.
So now I can add a true p2p transport layer to kybyz in addition to the kludgy IRC transport I'm using now. And without having to code it! Tor just works, out of the box so to speak.
I tried to post this info on Facebook this morning, but a bot deep-sixed it, and apparently no human has yet had a chance to determine that I didn't post a dark-web link to some illegal drug sales site or something.
